People talk about the "Nakba" - the disaster of the Palestinians. Despit the fact that in 1948 only the Jews called themselves Palestinians the Arabs did not and that the Arab armies invated Palestine.
Oh and the USA had arms embargo: The Jews had just declared their country and had hardly any weapons, the Arabs had armies with tanks and airplanes. So the embargo was especially difficult for the Jews.
